Promising Iranian sound recordist in iFilm spotlight

Young sound recordist Ahmad Saberi is one of the most acclaimed and rising sound recordist of Iran.

With some of the most prestigious projects on his resume, Ahmad Saberi is one of the most acclaimed and rising sound recordist of Iran.

Years of hard work and dedication for films such as ‘Komur’ and ‘Orange Days’ have turned Saberi’s name synonymously with quality sound designer and recordist across the globe. 

Born in 1993 in the Iranian city of Kerman, Saberi established a firm foothold in film industry at the age of 26 with Mehdi Afsharnik’s 2019 documentary film ‘Below Zero Boundary’.  

The young sound recordist, however, debuted as a feature film sound assistant with the film ‘A Long Day’ which went on screen at the 8th Philosophical Film Festival in Macedonia in April 2018.

Arash Lahouti’s multiple award-winning ‘Orange Days’ had also Saberi as sound recordist.

The list of accolades grabbed by the 102-minute ‘Orange Days’ includes the best film award of the 19th edition of the Yari Iranian Film Festival in Sweden, the Grand Prix at the 17th Pyongyang International Film Festival in North Korea, a special mention award at the 18th Imagineindia Film Festival (IFF) in Spain and the best film award at the 67th Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival in Germany.

The flick, which had its debut premiere at the 43rd Toronto International Film Festival, was also nominated for the best film award at the “New Look” section of the 37th edition of the Fajr Film Festival in Iran.

Saberi also appeared as sound recordist in Maryam Zarei’s first feature film ‘Magralen’ which succeeded to grab the best film award at the 11th Toronto Lift-Off Film Festival.

‘Magralen’ was in contention with films from all over the world in the competition section of many prestigious international film festivals such as Berlinale, Gimli International Film Festival in Canada, Malta Short Film Festival, Academy Award-qualifying Odense International Film Festival in Denmark, Tehran International Short Film Festival and the Linz International Short Film Festival in Australia.

Meysam Mohammadkhani’s ‘Henas’, which is an emotional display of the love of a mother and her child, has been another Saberi’s staggering contribution to film industry.

The long list of films sound designed by Saberi goes on with ‘Tattooed Dream’, ‘Komur’, ‘In public’, ‘Plaything’, ‘The Murdered’, ‘Between’, ‘Goodbye Shirazi Girl’ and ‘Son of the Sea’.
